  1. Serif Fonts return in design trends in 2023

    Serif fonts are a making comeback in 2023

Serif fonts are making a comeback at 2023, after years of rule of minimalist designs. We will see a return to more traditional and classic design elements and serif fonts are the perfect way to add a touch of elegance to your designs. Serif fonts create the effect of stability and visual structure, especially if the task is to design websites landing pages or make a presentation. We expect to see many non-traditional serif fonts including fun ascenders and descenders with the goal of making a font that stands out among the crowd.

3D Design Elements and 3D Typography Design is predicted to become increasingly popular in 2023 . Although this trend is present already for some time, it is expected that in 2023 the combination of 2D and 3D worlds will be much more interesting.  Mixture of 2D and 3D elements is making strong impact as they complementing each other by giving robust contrasts. 3D design allows us to create unique and eye-catching compositions that really pop off the page, as consequently it gives an extra level of depth and dimensionality to a design.

The reference to traditional media is another big trend we are will see in 2023.  Using traditional mediums like paper and watercolor is an emerging graphic design trend. It is related to the increase in presence of natural shapes and textures in design and it relays on imperfection that evokes a personable warmth and furthermore feeling of familiarity. Various kind of crafting and DIY projects became increasingly popular since beginning of 2020s. This led to a renewed interest in traditional mediums such as painting, sculpture, and photography. In graphic design programs mixed media brush libraries that mimics the textures of pencil, pen, watercolor, charcoals, oils, and pastels is exhibiting rise of interest in past 5 years so we expect this trend will persist and stay with us for some time.

Glass textures are another popular trend in web design used to create a clean and modern look while increasing the site’s dimensionality and giving it a unique, stylish edge. This glass-like feeling it already can be seen in the products of Windows 11 and iOs. It adds a layer of sophistication and interest to an otherwise simple and flat design. However this trend could appear cold and distant, making it perfect solution for tech-driven businesses but it have to softened when used in websites that need to display more approachable and friendly vibe.

In 2022 we witnessed several important events that will shape future of visual expression. We had the viral emergence of AI-generated art, the rise of Metaverse and the interstellar images made possible by the James Webb Space Telescope. This events altogether have left their mark on the creative industry and opened door for new way of interaction between art and technology. Designers are taking inspiration from all of these technological experiments and merging them with their own creative expertise. They say AI is blurring the definition of artist and a new field of digital art is stretching the boundaries of creativity and even more adding new perspective on how art is made. All this topics are just scratching a surface and we expect to see much more on this in following years.
