We've seen in jewelry trends for 2023 that colorful crystals and gemstones are making a comeback. High couture brands such as Louis Vuitton have showcased birthstone jewelry with vibrant gems at their fashion shows, resulting in the increasing demand for the trend. As more people search for distinctive and colorful items to add to their jewelry collections, this comeback of gemstones trend is anticipated to gain popularity in next years. This style is a fantastic way to stand out and use jewelry to express yourself, adding your own signature to the look.

Several semi-precious gems have been spotted in jewellery on the runways and red carpets this year and gemstone industry claims it will continue to dominate the rest of the year. This year we expect to see both classic gemstones such as sapphire, ruby and emerald, to more unusual combinations and colors in gemstones. Tanzanite, amethyst, garnet, aquamarine, morganite are trending in 2023.

For some they are fashion statement and for other gemstones have association with spirituality as birthstones and personal significance stones or good luck charms. Regardless on your motivation to wear them, they are amazing accessory that ads uniqueness and distinctive mark to your signature style.

As we enter a new era of self-expression, it’s time to look at the most popular gemstones in 2023. Classics like sapphire and ruby are well known, but what about semi-precious ones? Lets talk some more about them!

  1. Garnet

As Pantone announced, colour of 2023 is PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta. Every year, the Pantone Color Institute considers the current trends and studies how we use color. Viva Magenta is a color we should expect to see everywhere this coming year and hence jewelry is no exception.  The birthstone of January, garnet is an excellent choice in jewelry for 2023. And to match this years magenta trend, rhodolite garnet is one of the most popular red garnet types. Among natural, untreated gemstones, it is a genuine magenta gemstone – occupying that middle ground between red and purple.

  1. Amethyst

Amethyst is sought-after for its rich purple hue and is certainly a gem fit for royalty. Ranging from a pale lilac to a rich wine color,  is nothing if not regal in appearance. It is know as “The World’s Most Brilliant Gem" moissanite is more affordable cousin of diamond.  It's fantastically sparkly and hard as a rock. Its refractive index is higher than a natural diamond's, producing more shine and a special kind of fiery rainbow brilliance.

  1. Aquamarine

With hues reminiscent of the sea and sky, aquamarine is another colored gem that’s been trending in past year and is determined to stay in 2023. This beautiful gem also symbolizes  happiness, hope and everlasting youth. For spring-summer 2023 we saw it on the runway in the LV Iconic Aquamarine necklace features beloved House motifs as charms.

  1. Morganite

Morganite is the pink to orange-pink variety of beryl, a mineral that includes emerald and aquamarine. Sometimes it is called "pink emerald". This stone is extremely durable, very fashionable, and relatively high in hardness. It is believed to attract love and represents tranquility. So it is not a surprise to see this pastel-colored gemstones have caught the eye of many engagement ring shoppers. Soft pinks like morganite in combination with rose gold makes beautiful delicate synergy in the ring that symbolizes love.

  1. Turquoise

This chic boho sky-blue gem was nicknamed the ‘gem of joy’ by ancient Egyptians. Turquoise is said to symbolize happiness, positivity and good fortune. In 2023 we will see it in combination with other colouful gems but also with pearls. We saw this cool trend for SS'23 in Athens-based designer Ileana Makri creations, where amethyst and turquoise punctuate freshwater pearls, giving them a boho feel.
